Reuters is looking for a dynamic Video Journalist with a passion and flair to explain to the world the significant, complex and fascinating story of Japan.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team responsible for covering one of the world's most vibrant and influential countries, which will witness global events including a G20 summit, a change in Emperor, the 2019 Japan Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The region is also prone to natural disasters, so the successful candidate will need to be self-starter who is prepared to be deployed to disaster zones and cover breaking news at a moment's notice.
Responsibilities include planning, co-coordinating and covering stories for Reuters global digital and broadcast clients in a multimedia (text, pictures and video) manner. Ability to produce voice broadcast packages, and experience in front of camera, are a plus. There will also be opportunities for travel within the Asia Pacific region.
The ability to speak, read and write Japanese is a must.
The successful candidate will need to work independently and with Japanese sources and clients. She/he will need to be innovative and up-to-date with the rapidly changing needs of digital and social media clients. She/he must have a global perspective as well as an intimate knowledge of Japan. Excellent communication skills, an unflappable temperament and a demonstrable passion for news gathering and visual story telling are also key.
The video news industry is going through a period of significant change, largely driven by technology and the rapidly changing habits of news consumers. The successful candidate will need to be very customer focused and will be able to tailor content for Reuters clients in the growing digital sector as well as existing broadcast news customers.
Specific day-to-day responsibilities and milestones needed to achieve the objectives and key duties include:
*Coverage of events of international interest in Japan and North Asia for the video file.
*Keeping abreast of an often volatile and always fast-moving news file in the region.
*Coordinating news coverage and delivery as part of a multi-media team on a daily basis.
*Establishing a rapport with colleagues in the bureaux across all media.
*Pro-actively assisting in the rollout of the latest innovative news gathering and production tools.
*Keep a sharp eye out for breaking stories and trends

Desired Skills and Experience:
* Ability to film and use a broadcast quality video camera or DSLR * At least two years of experience, freelancing, internships with a video or digital news media company.
