Reuters is seeking a Bangalore Stock Markets Editor to take charge of one of our most high profile global stories – the New York stock exchange report – and help drive an expanded file that now includes dozens of Markets Buzz items daily.
This is a senior position and an excellent opportunity for a motivated journalist to carve a niche as a high-profile market reporter and team manager. S/he will write or oversee the daily U.S. Stocks report while mentoring other less experienced journalists to cover the world’s biggest and most closely tracked stock indexes. S/he will liaise closely on coverage with Reuters’ markets team in New York and write strong analysis and breaking news on daily share moves, trends and investor activity.
S/he will be proactive and tenacious in the pursuit of explanations for stock moves and will be able quickly to develop and cultivate a wide circle of contacts in the Wall Street trading world. S/he will ask the right questions, quickly, and will not be shy of picking up the phone or encouraging other members of the team to do likewise.
Every day, Reuters news is seen by more than 1 billion people worldwide. Bangalore has grown rapidly to become the third-largest Reuters newsroom, and is growing in importance as a hub for market-moving company news coverage.
The Bangalore Stock Markets Editor will work across the U.S news file, liaising with sector editors and reporters to explain stock moves. S/he may also seek opportunities to develop the profile of the role and team within the Bangalore bureau and explore new ways of cooperating with other teams who contribute to Reuters’ daily output on global markets.
The ideal candidate will pay great attention to detail and have an aptitude for numbers. S/he will be comfortable using Reuters data to identify and explain stock-market trends and drive initiative and analysis stories. Excellent news judgment is required and strong writing skills will be an advantage.
The successful candidate will also have demonstrated a keen understanding of customer needs and will uphold the accuracy, speed, context and freedom from bias that our global readership demands. S/he will possess excellent communication skills that will enhance the relationship between the Bangalore newsroom and our internal clients in North America.
The successful candidate will report to the News Editor, Bangalore.
