Job Description

Position Title:  QA Engineer

Business Unit: MDS / EDS (Managed Data Services)

Product or Service:

Functional and non-functional Testing MDS /EDS products, including Web Services, desktop, web based applications and customer loads and extracts, using manual and automated tools

Role Summary:

  • Developing knowledge of MDS / EDS products
  • Familiar with Agile and Waterfall SDLC's
  • Reviewing requirements – requesting clarification where required
  • Plan and agree required testing
    • Identify risks, build and implement mitigation plans
    • Prepare and agree testing estimates.
  • Develop, agree, document, maintain and run functional test cases and regression packs to fully exercising the product or change under test, giving confidence that released products contain a minimum number of problems
  • Perform manual and automated functional and non-functional testing giving confidence that released products contain a minimum number of problems.
  • Build non-functional testing as required
  • Some travel may be required

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

Legacy Systems

  • Reviewing requirements – requesting clarification where required
  • Prepare and agree test strategies and plans
  • Prepare and agree testing estimates.
  • Develop, agree, document, maintain and run functional and non-functional test cases and regression packs to fully exercising the product or change under test, giving confidence that released products contain a minimum number of problems

Agile Developments

  • Contribute to all Agile ceremonies
    • Reviewing user stories – requesting clarification where required
    • Selection of Sprint backlog items
    • Contributing to sprint backlog item estimates
    • Agree overall testing required for the sprint
    • Build Test automation regression pack automation required to test the sprint backlog
    • Together with other development team members, ensure that ‘Definition of done’ is satisfied for all sprint backlog items giving confidence that released products contain a minimum number of problems
  • Problem Logging and Triage

Key Relationships:

Test Manager, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, End Users, other team members

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of Agile SDLC
  • Knowledge and experience of Web Based Testing
  • Knowledge and experience of Web Services
  • Experience with automated functional and non-functional test tools
  • Experience with Problem Logging systems
  • Experience in Test Planning and Test Estimation
  • Experience in building maintaining and running manual and automated test cases and regression packs (Ideally the SmartBear family)
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, results orientated with a successful track record
  • Ability to research emerging technologies, automation tools and frameworks
  • Demonstrable Quick Learner
  • Proactive team player
  • Excellent communicator – Verbal & written with ability to influence and build relationships with team members
  • Customer focused
  • Able to work independently within guidelines

 Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of Waterfall SDLC 
  • Familiarity with ITIL
  • Familiarity with Prince2 or DSDM Atern project management
  • Knowledge and experience of Scripting Language(s) (ideally Java Script)
  • Experience with SmartBear automated test tools 
  • Experience with SoapUI Pro
  • Experience with JIRA
  • Able to perform Function Point Analysis
  • Able to Perform Root Cause Analysis
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis
  • Perform Function Point Analysis

Education/ Certifications:

Required

  • Degree in computer related subject or equivalent experience
  • Advanced level of understanding of
    • Functional and Non-functional Testing
    • Web Services
    • Test Automation

Preferred

  • ISTQB testing qualification
  • A good understanding of SmartBear family Test Automation Tools:-
    • TestComplete
    • LoadComplete
    • SoapUI
    • LoadUI
