DB2 Database Administrator

Job Description

Thomson Reuters BETA Systems is seeking a Database Administrator to support the system components and support application development projects that access DB2 for z/OS. The ideal candidate should have a extensive understanding of how DB2 object definitions and SQL affects performance. 


  • Support application developers in designing, defining and maintaining DB2 objects
  • Assist application developers in reviewing SQL for peak performance
  • Provide first level problem determination for DB2 errors and problems
  • Develop, maintain, schedule and support DB2 utility and maintenance jobs
  • Perform performance monitoring for DB2 application work


  • Extensive knowledge of DB2 for z/OS
  • Good familiarity with DB2 and SQL performance monitoring and be able to interpret performance metrics
  • Expertise with logical data modeling and physical database design and how to form those designs based on stated business rules, use cases, and existing design patterns
  • Knowledge of DB2 commands and the IBM DB2 utility suite
  • The ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent communication skills

The ideal candidate would also be familiar with the following:

  • CA DB2 tools including RC/Query, RC/Migrator, RC/Update, CA Detector and CA/Subsystem Analyzer and Fast Unload.
  • REXX
  • One or more of the following: XML, native DB2 stored procedures, and/or Power Exchange
