Thomson Reuters is looking for a motivated, self-starting Data Scientist, who is interested in working with Big Data and graph technologies. This role involves working with Thomson Reuters Data Fusion and Graph Feed platforms, a hybrid of big data and linked data technologies, which our clients use to integrate their data with Thomson Reuters Knowledge Graph and find new insights.

Job Profile & Responsibilities

  • Define, manipulate, aggregate and use both structured and unstructured “big data” in order to support descriptive and predictive analytics across the businesses.
  • Collaborate with scientists, product groups and content groups to perform “big data” aggregations, symbology mapping, and manipulations of important data-sets
  • Perform statistical (and machine-learned) analyses on data to serve business purposes
  • Narrate stories (sometimes to a non-technical audience) about our content and processes by data analysis and visualization
  • Define and develop software for the analysis and manipulation of large and very large data-sets
  • Guide the architecture of “big-data” business processes with an eye towards robustness, parsimony and reproducibility
  • Play a central role in the curation and development of data sources for Thomson Reuters Knowledge Graph products
  • Work with clients and internal stakeholders to describe software capabilities
  • Extract, transform and load client and Thomson Reuters data

Essential skills/experience:

  • Familiarity with SQL and querying data
  • Scripting experience with Perl, Python or Unix shell
  • Ability to work closely with clients to understand their data and how to integrate it into the Thomson Reuters Big Data ecosystem
  • Previous experience in a client-facing role is highly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to large client groups and conferences
  • Must be able to take initiative and work independently
  • Comfort working in a matrixed environment with numerous stakeholders
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to meet with clients. ~10% travel time estimated
  • PhD strongly preferred, MA required
  • Relevant work experience

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Knowledge of other big data and semantic web technologies, e.g., Spark, SPARQL, RDF
  • Familiarity with big data engines (Hadoop)
