The Enterprise Data Services group of Thomson Reuters, part of our corporate technology organization, provides Big & Linked Data platforms as a service to internal and external customers. Our mission is to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for storage, compute and modeling of cross business content and knowledge. One of our key deliverables is the creation and utilization of a knowledge graph; built using linked data standards and associated data marts.
Our Linked Data development team is tasked with the implementation of services and processes to populate and consume from our knowledge graph in the form of importers and data marts, utilizing standards and technologies from the Linked Data stable. A primary requirement of the team is to build reusable and shareable code and patterns to increase the adoption of the graph by business unit developers.
The Linked Data team is currently seeking a self-starting highly motivated individual to help lead the development effort in the delivery of our Linked Data platform.
The role will require the organization and management of development through the Agile framework, as well as requiring some hands-on development and problem solving and either existing knowledge of Semantic Web and Linked Data or a desire and ability to quickly learn new emergent principles and technologies.
o Lead agile development methodology
o Manage development pipeline through agile backlog and current sprint across multiple projects
o Lead developers in problem solving and dependency management
o Ensure overall vision and architecture is executed
o Hands on use of Linked Data technologies to ensure full understanding of system and to aid validation of implementation decisions
o Continuous learning and input into the build out of the Linked Data knowledge graph
o Ownership of some development tasks
o Work across a broader program to ensure dependencies and decision making across teams is effective
o Ensure effort and decisions are tracked and reportable to group
o Support project management group in overall management of program deliverables
• Undergraduate degree in computer science or a related field
• 5 years experience as a Lead/Senior Software Engineer
• Experience with Agile software development methods
• Solid experience programming with Java / Scala or equivalent programming language
• Strong conflict resolution, negotiation & influencing skills
• Desire and drive to make decisions stick, rapidly building consensus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with Executive audiences
• Experience of Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies and techniques
• Experience in utilizing big data technologies to achieve scale
• Experience in data transformation and manipulation (ETL)
• Experience of manipulating data in XML, Json, CSV, RDF
