Position Summary

The Producer must have a demonstrated ability to efficiently plan, voice and edit news packages drawing on multimedia content created by Reuters’ worldwide staff of video, picture and text journalists. The producer is based in Hong Kong and is responsible for completing several broadcast-quality video stories each day for a digital audience. The position demands mature news judgment, solid writing ability, strong video editing skills and an authoritative voice. The ideal candidate will be familiar with advanced craft editing techniques using Avid and/or FinalCut. The ability to shoot creatively on a Panasonic P2 and/or DSLR is also desirable. The position involves working shifts across the business day and includes full-time weekend duty.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work in a team of multi-media producers, to prepare, write and edit news packages for a 24-hour digital service
  • Help to identify the global editorial agenda, forward plan and respond to breaking news
  • Quickly execute stories to tight deadlines, providing depth and colour, while maintaining Reuters’ editorial standards

Essential Skills & Experience Required

  • Solid news judgment and knowledge
  • Significant experience of video and multi-media production
  • Ability to write and narrate video scripts in English to a high standard
  • Ability to work to deadlines while ensuring accuracy and adherence to company ethical and editorial standards
  • Strong visual storytelling and video editing skills, using Avid and/or FinalCut. Priority will be given to those who can demonstrate a feel for craft editing techniques
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibility to juggle competing demands
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • The ability to shoot (primarily Panasonic P2 but DSLR experience a bonus) creatively Previous experience of newsroom IT systems and using a CMS
  • Languages
  • Understanding and experience of social media to prepare and promote content
