Lead Site Reliability Engineer

Job Description

The Online and Search Platform organization within Thomson Reuters is responsible for developing and supporting shared platforms of online and content services that are leveraged by numerous products across all of Thomson Reuters.  This makes it possible for Thomson Reuters to deliver data to our customers via mobile, online, and print platforms.  

Thomson Reuters is looking to add a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to an Application Management Services team located in Eagan, Minnesota. 

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you will have an active role in defining operations and support needs while implementing new applications and services, providing change planning, change execution, and incident management as needed. Your role will be a mix of proactive and reactive work. 

 In addition to these primary responsibilities the Lead SRE will drive specific projects as assigned, be part of an after-hours on-call rotation for escalation of issues and build relationships with support teams, architects, development and our partners. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement automation via scripting or use of our enterprise toolset for more efficient operations.
  • Represent operations in a technical fashion to leadership, architects, support teams and development while implementing applications, services and new functionality into the environments we support.
  • Define and implement procedures and processes for new implementations, incident management, problem management, change management and change planning as necessary.
  • Lead virtual teams with development and other operations groups to continue evolving our monitoring and operational procedures and tools.
  • Own complex incidents investigations and drive problem management activities as needed.
  • Define operational procedures and standards for our team.
  • Provide technical cross training to operations support staff.
  • Become a subject matter expert for multiple areas within our team.
  • Participate in after-hours on call escalation rotation for holidays, emergencies, specific project work. 
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and evolve operational best practices to strengthen our team while ensuring highly available environments for our partners.
  • Drive multiple issues and project deliverables while continuing to deliver high quality results that are in-line with project schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in an enterprise application operations, software engineer or system administration position including the following:
  • 3+ years Linux OS
  • 2+ years scripting experience (Python or JavaScript).
  • Experience leading technical application implementation projects end to end.
  • Experience in database, network and storage concepts.
  • Experience with BigData technologies, Cloud and elasticsearch. 
  • Experience with Agile software development practices. 
  • Excellent written, verbal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to own process improvement identification and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new platforms and technologies.
  • 1 or more years of development experience a plus
