Job Description

At Thomson Reuters, we provide professionals with the intelligence, technology and human expertise they need to find trusted answers. We’re looking for an ambitious and talented web developer to join our team.

Building web experiences that support marketing initiatives for a company of our size is a challenging and rewarding undertaking. Your work will be seen by customers all over the world and used by teams across the organization, both as dedicated webapps and UI markup for CMSs such as Adobe Experience Manager and WordPress. Your work will deliver creatively-designed content that puts users’ needs first.

You’ll be part a dedicated in-house creative agency resourced to deliver excellence, with control over the full stack. We’re using Sketch to design, crafting standards-based semantic HTML, and operating with modern tools such as webpack, React with ES2017 features and PostCSS-cssnext. Your work will span front-end and back-end disciplines, and you’ll have influence over technology choices to fulfil the needs of web projects that are varied, data-driven and creatively challenging.

We use a modern, collaborative workflow, developing transparently with strong documentation and coding standards. Progressive enhancement is key, and your work will scale intelligently to fit challenging demands in accessibility, usability and internationalization, operating within a tiered model of browser and device support that evolves over time. Testing is central to our development approach, and we keenly pursue browser performance as a core feature.

If you’re passionate about building beautiful web experiences that put the user first, please get in touch. Strong communication (both verbal and written), a sharp eye for detail and cross-cultural awareness are essentials skills to this role.

Essentials skills

  • Full stack web development skills – the role has a focus on open source technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, PHP and Java;
  • Experience planning, executing and deploying websites end-to-end, incorporating a variety of content management systems and technologies;
  • Confidence within client meetings, including discussing requirements and giving training as needed;
  • Experience implementing site analytics handlers and retrieving data to support business needs;
  • Experience using task runners such as Grunt and Gulp to automate repetitive tasks;
  • Confidence and drive working in a corporate environment as part of an in-house creative agency;
  • Ability to work independently towards team goals, proactively seeking areas to add value;
  • Strong attention to detail and appreciation for visual design principles.

Desirable skills

  • Experience working to Agile methodologies;
  • Experience handling multiple projects simultaneously, managing time independently;
  • Applied knowledge of usability and accessibility practices;
  • Knowledge of common Unix terminal commands for intermediate automation tasks.
