Primary Objective(s)

An Associate Architect is a strategic technical advisor to business partners and technical staff building innovative product solutions for the global legal market.

Our Associate Architects lead the analysis, definition, design, and provide oversight for construction, testing, installation, and modification across multiple large interdependent systems. Associate Architects apply technical governance processes and partner with stakeholders on large projects to provide architectural oversight throughout the lifecycle of a project.

This position will have a focus on front end development by working with architects to establish, solidify and champion best practices and design patterns.  Special consideration with regards to security, accessibility, internationalization, mobile support, code structure, performance, error handling, and build/deploy standards.

Division/Group/Role

The Litigation and Transaction Technology team works in a cutting-edge and fast-paced environment building large-scale systems and solutions for attorneys and customers in the Litigation and Transaction practice areas.  Our product offerings are typically web-based, mobile-based, integrated with desktop applications, or SaaS solutions.

Key Responsibilities & Technologies

  • Partners and advises business, user experience, and technology leaders on the design of web-based, desktop integrated, mobile and SaaS and solutions for the global legal market.
  • Ability to design front end applications with user experience, accessibility, internationalization, mobile, maintainability and testability in mind.
  • Demonstrate recent front end coding experience by establishing and implementing complex design patterns, conducting code reviews, and developing POCs.
  • Partners with peer architects on large projects to provide ongoing architecture oversight throughout the development lifecycle, after the overall architecture has been developed and communicated.
  • Designs technical solutions that will fit into long-term business objectives and that leverage architectural best practices.
  • Ability to design solutions with scalability, reliability, maintainability, reusability, and testability in mind and to align with data center and operational support strategies.
  • Develops, analyzes, and validates architecture, balancing tradeoffs between technology and business requirements where necessary.
  • Communicates solutions and technical designs through formal and informal means to business unit executives, technology management, peers and development staff, and other colleagues.
  • Stays up-to-date on industry trends, best practices, and software development techniques.
  • Actively participates in well-established and strong architect community.
  • Provides technical leadership, mentoring, or coaching to software or systems engineering teams.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Robust analytical skills with the ability to synthesize business requirements with technology capabilities to produce coherent technical designs.
  • Preferred Technology Knowledge:  Angular, NodeJS, NGRX, JavaScript, TypeScript, SASS, HTML, jQuery, XML, JSON, REST, XML, Headless Browsers, Responsive Design Techniques, Jasmine, Karma, Istanbul, Cloud Computing
  • Experience with Agile, Reactive Programming, Search Engine Optimization, TDD, Dependency Injection, CI and other software engineering best practices.
  • Ability to integrate specific elements of functional domain skills to deliver innovative technical designs.
  • Ability to successfully operate across organizational boundaries and to influence vendors, business partners, and technology staff and impact the internal and external technology community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills supported by exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor others.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; degree in computer science or mathematics preferred.
  • 5-7+years relevant technical experience, 1 year architecture experience preferred
