Development Manager

Job Description

The Finance & Risk group is looking to add a Development Manager to our Platform Applications team at our new Technology Centre in Toronto, Ontario. This Tech Centre is ideally located in the core of downtown Toronto and part of the rich mix of emerging and mature technology employers and growing FinTech community. Our plan is to create around 1,500 technology and operations jobs in the coming years, starting with an initial trance of 400 roles at the new Centre.

Reporting into the Director – Platform Applications, the purpose of this role is to provide technical guidance and lead the core Apps team day-to-day developments (design, analysis, product development, code review, and delivery with high standard of quality).

Core Apps are built for our flagship Eikon product, along with cross-product appeal to other business units (Risk, Legal, Tax and Accounting). Eikon is a financial analysis desktop and mobile solution providing access to trusted news, data, and analytics. This enterprise software solution streams real-time data in addition to the deep historical information, with content from more than 400 exchanges.

Responsibilities include but aren't limited to:

  • Interact with business/product to understand scope and clarification of requirements
  • Estimate and plan development sprints according to priorities and business allocation
  • Provide technical leadership to the team, ensuring design and architecture are aligned with the global platform strategy
  • Develop and deliver features and infrastructures changes in agile methodologies
  • Ensure fundamental quality practices are integrated in development lifecycle, such as automated unit tests, integration tests
  • Own and be accountable for end-to-end deliveries
  • Partner with DevOps to ensure reliability, scalability and comprehensive monitoring of Apps infrastructure. Ensure no service interruptions
  • Collaborate with other Platform development managers to deliver Eikon workflows that may span across teams
  • Interact with peers to avoid any work duplication, ensure teams are aligned and moving in the same direction, help them deliver their own requirement when they need feature changes in core Apps
  • Communicate business and technical strategy to the team and relay company information
  • Report to development director the current progress, architecture, designs decisions, roadblocks and dependencies
  • Help team members to grow in technical skills, development practices, business understanding
  • Participate in recruitment activities


  • Developed and led Full Stack systems involving client side code and web services
  • Previously designed or refactored complex architecture involving several teams
  • 5+ years in technical leadership or team leading roles


  • Strong JavaScript knowledge, Client Web technologies with Angular (nice to have: TypeScript)
  • Strong knowledge in WebServices written in C#, nodejs, jquery
  • Web application development with HTML5, CSS3
  • Experience with .NET framework
  • C++/WPF knowledge is welcomed to debug and maintain existing systems
  • Solid focus on system performance, scalability with the ability to solve problems in large and complex software systems
  • Inclination towards automation, unit tests, integration tests, agile practices
  • International experiences appreciated


Minimum Bachelor Degree or higher in Computer Science or Computer/Software Engineering

  • Good communication skills, ability to work remotely with product business (New York, London), and with other remote team members on development teams (Belarus, Paris, Bangkok)
  • Ability to collaborate successfully across geography boundaries, time-zones, cultural differences
  • Demonstrate multitasking skills in a rapidly changing environment
  • Innovative and looking to align with industry standards and trends
  • Ability to self-motivate and hold enthusiasm to see tasks through to completion
