Management Systems Architect (London)

Job Description
  • The Enterprise Tools Architecture team is responsible for a broad set of tools and data across Continuous Integration/Delivery and Operations within Thomson Reuters. Working with engineering, development and business partners our goal is to provide a best of breed tool chain that enables rapid software delivery and outstanding operational services. 

    We are currently seeking a Management Systems Architect to provide technical leadership and guidance as it pertains to management systems technologies. Partnering with the existing design and engineering teams they will provide architectural strategy, direction and make recommendations to senior management. 

    Key to this role will be transforming the continuous integration and delivery of pipeline tool chains that application development teams use within the traditional data center as well as providing a path for transitioning to the cloud. The Architect in this position must be an excellent communicator with business partners, management and design and engineering teams.  They will display creativity along with strong analysis and design skills including those to apply new technologies and approaches in innovative ways as well as the ability to recognize problems in existing designs.  

    Major Areas of Accountability

    Technology (40%)

    • Partner with architects and engineers on evaluating new management systems technologies and solutions
    • Maintain current knowledge of the management systems technology market provided by cloud providers, software vendors and available as open source technologies
    • Demonstrate an aptitude to design technical solutions that fit into long-term business objectives
    • Evaluate the impact a given solution will have on application and infrastructure environments
    • Demonstrate technical knowledge of tools used for software integration and delivery including managing source code and binary artifacts, automation of software builds, testing and deployments

    Leadership & Communication (30%) 

    • Communicate technical solutions and recommendations to various audiences at different levels of the organization
    • Provide technical governance of projects to ensure adherence to standards - Contribute and influence the delivery and quality of technical solutions across multiple geographically distributed teams
    • Collaborate with teams across the business to set standards and best practices
    • Provide mentorship for architects and engineering staff

    Strategy (20%)

    • Establish strategic applications to fit the capability needs of the business and in-line with technology strategies defined by technology leadership
    • Define technical road maps for continuous integration and delivery tool chains
    • Deliver formal and informal technical presentations
    • Work with our vendors on technical and commercial aspects

    Financial Responsibility (10%)

    • Provide financial analysis for technology decisions
    • Partner with stakeholders to evaluate costs and benefits for technical solutions
    • Work with other architects, engineering and vendor management to make cost effective choices for continuous integration and development tooling
    • Participate in contract discussions that involve technical decisions

    Key Relationships

    • Internally: Infrastructure architects and engineers, business unit architects, business unit product teams, cloud architects and engineers
    • Externally: Software vendors and service providers, third party consultants, product user groups

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer related field preferred
    • Extensive experience working with System Management technologies
    • Strong previous experience with source code management, build management, test and deployment tools, orchestration and automation software
    • Extensive software development experience utilizing Agile and DevOps methodologies
    • Ability to collaborate with teams across the business to set standards and best practices
    • Proven ability to oversee multiple technical projects and provide technical guidance
    • Strong interpersonal skills supported by expressive oral and written communication styles

    Desirable Skills and Experience:

    • Previous experience of service management principles and technologies
    • Knowledge of cloud based solutions and tools
    • Experience with data information models
    • Experience working with business stakeholders and project managers
