Position : Polling Correspondent
Location : Bangalore

Position Overview:

This is a correspondent-level position requiring independent and original analysis of economic data, central bank interest rate and policy expectations and data trends in Reuters polls over time. The chosen candidate will be required to conduct polls and write stories around the findings with authority and expertise on financial markets.


Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
• The candidate should be able to build relationships with clients, contacts and internal correspondents and innovate in their area of expertise.
• Ideally the candidate should have several years of experience working in the financial industry or in a position involving economic analysis or tracking policy.
• He or she should be comfortable with economic data and statistics, what they mean, and be able to differentiate their significance.
• The candidate should have a good grasp of monetary policy and some of the unorthodox methods central banks have been using to keep the financial system working and economies out of recession.
• He or she should have an interest in emerging markets and rapidly developing economies as well as established ones.
• The correspondent will be a self-starter, tech-savvy and will be able to come up with new ideas each week through individual research. He or she will be expected to take on a key leadership role in the one of the Bangalore newsroom’s most successful and far-reaching teams, inspiring debate on hot topics on a weekly basis and contributing to analysis in regular poll offerings.
• He or she should show a clear ability to spot trends on the world economy and possess a real drive and enthusiasm for the subject matter, working with correspondents in a virtual team shared with London, as well as with others around the world as needed on snap polls or new surveys.
Required Skills (Must have):
• Necessary industry experience and associated number of years of experience:
• Strong writing skills
• Willingness to work in shifts, including nights
• Expertise in financial markets to add insight to stories and bring in an international flavour
• Good understanding of macroeconomics, central banks and how financial markets work
• Passion for economic news and critical thinking about concepts
• 2-3 years work previous work experience preferred
• Regular reader of the world financial press
• Good interpersonal skills with colleagues of various backgrounds and levels of expertise
• Proven track record of accuracy, teamwork, firm understanding of priorities and punctuality, adherence to corporate policies
• Prior exposure to financial journalism is a plus
