The Asia markets team is looking for a senior correspondent with knowledge and experience of foreign exchange markets in particular and financial markets more broadly. FX is the world’s biggest financial market, and this job is right at the heart of it with the foreign exchange and global markets reports the correspondent will write among the most read on our file each day.
Covering the G10 and major regional currencies through Asian trading, the successful candidate will have excellent markets knowledge, be a fluent writer and have a good track record of contact building and generating stories, including in debt and stock markets. The ability to work within a small team of currency and bond market reporters and to collaborate with journalists across the region and beyond is vital.
You will need to be able to explain succinctly why currencies are moving on tensions in the Korean peninsula, a rise in Japanese government bond yields, an election outcome or a shifting outlook for monetary policy, and illustrate where and how money is moving as markets shift, and track longer-term trends of changes in relative values of currencies in the region and around the world.
Key duties will include snapping moves across a range of G10 currencies and writing our daily foreign exchange and global market reports, as well as contributing to debt and stock market stories. There will also be time for in-depth stories on industry trends, trades and regulation that are of interest to our professional audience. Close coordination with other FX reporters, including in New York and London, will be an important aspect of this role.
