Job Description

Reuters is looking for a talented and scoop-winning Spanish-language journalist to join a small reporting team in Venezuela, one of the most newsworthy countries in the Americas. Although it sits on the world’s biggest oil reserves, Venezuela is going through an appalling economic, social and political crisis. The successful candidate will need to be an all-rounder, but the role will have a special emphasis on coverage of the collapsing oil sector and Venezuela’s macroeconomic and debt difficulties. The reporter will be expected to bring in regular exclusives and work on longer-term investigative pieces that make us stand out from the crowd. He or she must have passion for the story in Venezuela, good reporting and writing skills, willingness to put up with often tricky working conditions & a tough city, and diplomatic skills to deal with prickly officials. Hostile environment experience and a sense of humor are essential. The successful candidate must work smoothly with English-language colleagues and with the multimedia team.
