Description
The successful applicant will join a new team developing Thomson Reuters Post Trade Services offering - Thomson Reuters Trade Notification. Thomson Reuters Trade Notification is a secure messaging hub that captures trades electronically and delivers notifications instantly for both voice and electronically executed trades.
The successful applicant will have the following responsibilities:
- Participating in project planning sessions with team members to analyse requirements.
- Providing design recommendations, developing and integrating programs per written specifications.
- Translating business and technical requirements into detailed design specifications for application code and modules.
- Preparing and presenting status updates for various projects.
- Making moderate to complex modifications to existing software applications and modules in accordance with written specifications and industry standards.
- Developing software application modules using disciplined software development processes.
- Unit testing and implementing application modules from multiple systems the team has developed or modified, ensuring application meets needs of client and business.
- Identifies ways to improve the operation of own area and to achieve efficiencies and results.
- Mentoring and support of junior team members.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
Required Skills (Must have), Necessary industry Experience & associated number of years of experience:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years working experience in software development projects
- Excellent understanding of software engineering principles and object-oriented design
- Completing objectives of assignments within the agreed timeframe and to agreed quality levels
- Demonstrated experience in all phases from design to release of production quality systems
- Strong analytic thinking skills
- Required languages: 2+ years programming using Java/JEE
- Familiar with XML
- Experience of version control systems; Subversion and GIT preferred
- Interest in the financial markets
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English
- Effective technical communication skills
- Passion for learning and strong learning skills
- An enthusiastic team player
Desired Skills (Nice to have in addition to the Required Skills), Necessary industry Experience & associated number of years of experience:
- Experience of programming in the UNIX environment
- Experience of working to short project deadlines.
- Good understanding of unit testing, testing frameworks and test-first development
- Good understanding of agile development techniques
- Good understanding of database design and database performance
- Experience with JEE, applications and applets
- Working knowledge of Javascript, Ajax, SQL, .Net, C#, Visual Basic, XML, HTML, UNIX shell scripts
- Experience of working with Eclipse, Oracle database, GlassFish, Spring, Jasper and Maven
- Java certification:
- Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP),
- Sun Certified Java Developer (SCJD)
