Responsible for installation and support of a variety of distributed systems equipment, including configuration, asset, change and problem management processes.

Education
- 2 year technical degree or 2+ years of network/server/Data Center work experience.

- Build, maintain and troubleshoot systems supported on multiple platforms and designed for various uses in the labs including, but not limited to, Windows Server 2008/2008R2, Windows XP/Vista/7/8
- Administer servers to include installation, configuration, monitoring, updating and backup tasks of the Windows 2008/2008R2 and VMWare 5.x infrastructure
- Prioritize and fulfill requests from Developers and Quality Assurance Engineers
- Perform general lab upkeep duties including cabling and racking equipment
- Identify areas in which lab systems use can be improved and work to implement measures of standardization
- Ensure that lab systems keep pace with the platform choices and performance requirements of a growing company
- In coordination with the Network Engineer, help manage and oversee design and use of lab-related network space
- Manage Development and Quality Assurance Engineers' remote access to lab equipment
- Provide project support including planning and implementation of servers and software as required by the business.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
- Maintains accurate and timely records in time tracking systems, ticket management systems, asset tracking systems, and weekly status and metrics report repositories
- Documents current processes, procedures, and routing guidelines; and builds, maintains and contributes to a knowledgebase for end user systems
- Ensuring consistent system availability and data integrity
- Provide lab support for the automation efforts

Formal Education & Certification
- BS Degree and 3 to 5 years of applicable experience in Windows System administration - working with some or all of Windows Server and VMWare platforms
- Microsoft, Cisco, and/or VMWare Certifications a plus

Knowledge & Experience
- Mid to Senior expertise in Windows Server environments including:
- Server operating systems including Windows 2008/2008R2 and ESXi 5.x
- Setup and administrated Active Directory
- Setup and administrated VMWare installations
- Willingness to "rack and stack" gear in the lab environment

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

This Application Management Engineer (AME) position will provide application management services for many of our external flagship products including WestlawNext and Westlaw Classic. Application Management engineers will be assigned certain applications or areas of focus, and serve as the primary point of contact with developers, operations teams, platform teams, and other partners. For your assigned areas of focus, responsibilities include participating in planning meetings for change deployments, upgrades, maintenance, and infrastructure enhancements; creating and maintaining change and incident documentation; and collaborating with others to improve incident detection and faster resolutions. Application Management engineers will also be involved in on-boarding and ensuring operational readiness and ongoing supportability of new applications and components.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Point of contact for developers and other partners for specific areas of focus.
- Participates in on-boarding new applications or components into our production and QA/QED environments.
- Ensures operational readiness and ongoing supportability for new applications and components to ensure operational excellence and that operations needs are met. May include proactively analyzing the environment, infrastructure, and app to help prevent production problems, maintain and improve performance and stability, and drive operational efficiencies.
- Partners with development and other support teams to ensure application monitors are in place to provide effective and timely alerts.
- Creates and maintains well-written documentation, such as deployment procedures and troubleshooting guides.
- Collaborates with others to plan and schedule change deployments, upgrades, infrastructure enhancements, maintenance, and other activities.
- Serves as a point of escalation to assist Application Services team members with incidents and change activities. This includes being part of an on-call pager rotation.
- Investigates and summarizes major incidents, and pursues follow ups to improve incident detection and faster resolutions.
- Applies automation and other improvements to change and incident management activities.

The Real Time Implementation Infrastructure Deployment Team manage the delivery of Infrastructure requirements for all new Elektron POPs, Elektron capacity hardware upgrades and IDN hardware upgrades globally. The role of the Infrastructure deployment engineer is a varied one working with many internal and external stakeholders, they have end to end ownership to ensure that the delivery from initial requirements and design all the way through to testing and hand-off to regional Implementation teams is achieved in a timely, coordinated and controlled manner.
- Assisting technical Architect and Planner with elements of planning and related documentation.
- Interpreting of individual site scoping documents and translating the designs to ‘on-the-ground’ deployments, then acting as Real Time tech
representative in meetings with 3rd party site management vendors (Savvis, BT, Exchange etc.) to make sure our requirements are met.
- Document all site requirements and disseminate information to stakeholders.
- Act as technical liaison and escalation path on the project for Vendors such as HP during their phase of the work, sorting out any inter-
vendor issues onsite.
- Take possession of the new PoP from HP and run testing programmes of work against it liaising with HP and TR internal to fix any
issues in the PoP.
- Liaising and managing 3rd party vendors for all HW swap outs prior to handing over the PoP to Implementation.
- Liaise with vendors to get all relevant data to hand in order to fill in TR related documentation e.g. Asset Proforma. and ensure all
documentation is available readily for relevant personnel to take ownership for delivery.
- Liaise with L3/Dev to source doc sets for HP/Cisco/other kit and extract data from said doc sets to populate TR related documentation
- Create deployment diagrams and doc sets (including testing scripts, cable matrices, etc) .
- Complete site profile documents and deficiency handover lists ready for handover to the various internal Implementation teams.
- Handover PoP to Implementation and complete all outstanding items on DHL ready for acceptance from Implementation amd Support teams
- Manage logistics for upgrade weekends such as access to vendors (HP/BT) during upgrades, confirmation on the availability of the
resources and hardware.
- Performing the install/upgrade activities managing onsite Vendor and internal teams on weekends. Testing the server/applications, links etc as
per testing scripts, troubleshooting issues and completeing required post checks.
