This is an exciting opportunity for a journalist seeking the chance to cover a full range of stories from oil to human rights abuses, and gain experience of leading a talented multi-media team. Based in Almaty, the Chief Correspondent will oversee our file form the five ‘Stans’ of the former Soviet Union - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan - in coordination with the regional Bureau Chief in Moscow and the news editors in London. T

his is a huge and diverse area with a population of about 65 million people spanning more than 4 million square km. The five countries are at different stages of economic and political development, two decades after they become independent from the Soviet Union, and each offers its own challenges and fascinations.

The successful candidate will be a top-notch writer and motivated self-starter who is equally at home writing an oil snap as a breaking story about miners rioting in a remote town. He or she will drive a file in which the region’s energy resources play a dominant role and help provide strong coverage of the big companies in the region that are sitting on oil and gas resources, some of them quoted on foreign stock exchanges. Banking is also developing in the region. There is a potential for political upheaval in many parts of the region and Kazakhstan is a launchpad for international space missions. The Chief Correspondent will lead from the front by coming up with imaginative ideas for longer-form enterprise stories and spot news. He or she will write stories with flair, providing the regional and national big picture, spotting themes before our rivals and developing them through sources and staff on the ground. He or she will also help less senior staff pull together well-written stories that show their in-depth knowledge of the region and out us ahead of our rivals in terms of quality, accuracy and speed. He or she will also bring on local staff to develop their potential and help us retain the best.

The job involves managing a multi-media team of 12 across the region and ensuring their safety in sometimes hostile environments and difficult conditions. He or she will have a proven ability to lead a team and will be able to look after the interests of the staff and the company in an area with governments are in some cases autocratic and unpredictable. Overview:

Reuters is seeking a dynamic reporter for the New York commodities team who can break agenda-setting news and produce sophisticated markets coverage of base metals. With deep sources and market expertise, the successful candidate is expected to produce everything from in-depth, enterprising pieces that delve deep into the dark corners of the industry to sophisticated, inside-the-market stories that speak clearly and compellingly to our trading customers.

Qualifications

Required Skills:
- Minimum 4 years’ journalism experience
- Grasp of physical and futures commodities markets; experience of physical price discovery preferred
- History of breaking major news stories, developing high-level sources
- Some experience with enterprise work preferred
- Strong writing skills and an ability to tell complex stories with flair.
- Ability to work on own initiative and come up with story ideas.

The Regional Manager Business Intelligence (EMEA) will report to the Head of Business Intelligence. S/he will manage, contribute to, execute, and monitor all business intelligence (BI) activities and initiatives in the EMEA Region.

The Regional Manager Business Intelligence (EMEA) will build our BI (source comment) capacity in the EMEA region, and ensure that the BI product from that region meets our expectations of quality, and our administrative and compliance requirements.

The successful applicant will maintain a high level of awareness regarding the operations and activities of Thomson Reuters’ enhanced due diligence operations through the IntegraScreen brand, of its BI unit, their strategic initiatives, and their day-to-day activities.

They will be directly responsible on a day-to-day basis for managing the editing, quality control and timely delivery of the EMEA business intelligence case load, and for ensuring it meets the expectations of clients and our own established internal procedures and processes.

Qualifications

Solid experience in journalism or in enhanced due diligence in
a role related to the key responsibilities and accountabilities detailed above.

Advanced written English skills, the ability to both write and edit complex risk assessments.

An appreciation of and interest in contemporary political, economic, regulatory and social issues as they apply to the EMEA region.

Well-developed interviewing skills and the ability to engage sources and colleagues at all levels.

A well-established and comprehensive network of contacts throughout the EMEA Region and a demonstrated ability to manage high volume input from that network.

Decision making, problem solving and advanced interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain productive relationships amid demands for high quality output and pressure of deadline. The ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues constructively.

Fluency in French (desirable)

Reuters is looking for an outstanding journalist to help drive our enterprising coverage of the pressing political and social issues facing China and its leaders as the country grapples with the fallout of its breakneck economic growth and the rising expectations that rising living standards have fostered among its people. The senior correspondent will need to be able to carry out in-depth reporting on a range of issues, moving seamlessly from unearthing details of political scandals to deeply reported stories on problems such as pollution and food safety breaches – stories that break new ground and offer readers insight into the challenges the government is facing, how it is dealing with them and their potential impact on China and the rest of the world.

Qualifications

The Beijing-based role will largely be freed from the constraints of the daily news agenda, though the correspondent will need to help out with breaking news coverage from time to time. Still, the ideal candidate will be fiercely competitive and disciplined, able to jump in to contribute to big breaking stories, work to tight deadlines on ambitious reporting projects, and give Reuters’ customers a stream of scoops of fact and insight. The Senior Correspondent must be able to develop deep sources and deliver strongly written pieces varying in length from 600-word spot stories to 2500-word Special Reports . He/she must be a consummate team player, collaborating effortlessly with reporters across a large China Bureau without treading on toes or triggering turf wars. The Senior Correspondent will need in many cases to work with correspondents specializing in other subject areas on jointly reported stories, and will be expected to help coach less experienced staff members on how to approach in-depth reporting and writing. Above all he/she will have outstanding ideas for stories that will give Reuters peerless coverage of the way China is changing.
