Reuters is looking for a dynamic mining reporter to drive coverage of the Americas’ biggest mining companies. Based in Toronto, this role involves breaking news and writing insightful and authoritative stories on an industry once again flush with cash on the back of rebounding metal prices. This region is home to some of the world biggest miners, including top gold producer Barrick, copper producer Freeport-McMoran and the world's biggest iron ore producer Vale.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can build a network of top sources within companies, regulators and investment banks. S/he will closely work with mining and commodities correspondents in the region and across the world to produce stories that reveal everything from corporate strategies and boardroom tussles to growth plans. The job entails collaborating seamlessly with stringers and reporters in busy bureaus to crack stories involving environmental issues, resource nationalism, regulation and political challenges.
The mining industry is on the verge of transformation as demand for electric vehicles brings new capital from battery-makers and OEMs keen to lock in long-term supply agreements. The successful candidate, working with other industry reporters, will develop a top-notch file on this emerging trend. We are seeking a reporter with deep knowledge of the mining industry, a proven ability to break news and a track record of writing stories that become must-reads for investors.
