Senior Associate, Legal Managed Services

Job Description

Position: Senior Associate

Role Purpose:

In addition to analyzing and interpreting documents and classifying them based on their potential relevance to particular legal or factual issues, cases, investigations, or other proceedings, Senior Associates tend to play a key role in quality control and audit responsibilities on their projects.  Senior Associates execute basic project management activities, and might have external-facing responsibilities (e.g., coordination with platform vendors for access to the dataset).  They typically have 1.5 - 3 years of work experience.


  • Review documents for legal and/or factual relevance to the case/investigation; legal privilege; and special (matter-specific) concepts as per client instructions.  Expert on the protocol and instructions governing the case; able to disseminate this learning to small sub-teams, or more generally to juniors on the team; contributes to development and preparation of training material and has the ability to conduct project specific training sessions. 
  • Perform quality checks and audits on document review projects.
  • Written communication skills are strong enough to create engagement reference documents, emails, and drafts that are usable for communications with external stakeholders (e.g. e-discovery platform vendors; clients/outside counsel).
  • Knowledge of e-discovery platforms and workflow should go beyond management of individual assignments; should understand and run advanced searches. 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Skilled in the most commonly used e-discovery platforms, especially Relativity; can manage assignments and has a good understanding of search syntax (and the ways in which they vary) on particular platforms and of the logic underlying platform tools; ability to run error-free searches.
  • Strong analytical and logical skills.
  • Good knowledge of MS word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Organized, efficient, and meticulous; excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates an ability to mentor small number of teammates.
  • Ability to read and write Chinese language is preferred as this role requires vetting of legal documents written in Chinese.
