The Thomson Reuters Technology Industrial Placement is looking for Undergraduates to join our world class technology organization for the academic year 2018/19.  

We are offering a unique opportunity to spend 12 months gaining insight into our business and exposure to cutting edge technologies.

As a successful applicant, you will join our London office and immediately be part of a vibrant and high performing team of outstanding technologists, delivering a range of products designed to meet the pre-trade, execution and post trade needs of a wide variety of financial professionals.   

What can you expect?

Upon joining, you will begin working in one of our development teams, in which our London technologists have tremendous expertise. We are looking for undergraduates who are interested in big data, automated test engineering, performance testing, and software engineering and development.

High-performing placement students will have the opportunity to apply for our Technology Graduate Programme (September 2020) which will be based in Nottingham.

Your Placement Experience:

Your placement year will provide the opportunity to experience professional life and apply the skills you’ve learned at University. As part of our technology community, we will provide you with meaningful work; you’ll gain exposure to industry recognized products, teams & technologies; and begin to develop skills to help you launch a successful technology career.  

You will be a part of a broader early career community, and this includes:

  • Work with leading technologists in areas of software engineering and software testing.
  • Be exposed to great opportunities to develop real life skills and earn valuable industry experience
  • Have numerous opportunities to meet like-minded people and share your passion for technology with them
  • Be mentored to improve on the job technical skills and leadership skills by a member of our technology team

This position will be based within Time Series Technology Development which is a group within our Financial and Risk business area that focuses on collecting and distributing price-time series data (a collection of data showing the price of financial instruments over a period of time) to support Thomson Reuters Eikon, Thomson Reuters Tick History and other products and internal infrastructures.

The Time Series Technology Development group offers a trainee post for a student undertaking a degree course in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related disciplines.  The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced software engineers and at the end of the placement can expect to have gained practical experience of work as part of an agile software engineering team and have developed professional working values that will underpin their future careers.

What we’re looking for

  • Currently studying for a BSc or MSc in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Maths, Information Systems, or related fields (with exposure to programming preferred).
  • Evidence of knowledge or practical demonstration of an interest and hands on experience in technology through university, technology forums, user groups or blogs.
  • Demonstrable skills in one or more programming languages; Java, Javascript, SQL, C++, C#, Python, HTML 5  or other technologies
  • A proactive and self motivated approach to work and responsibility, an open-mind and willingness to use your initiative and creativity to solve problems, innovate and suggest new ways of working
  • Ability to work within a team centric environment and collaborate within and outside of the direct team. 
  • Attention to detail, analytical, structured and organized, with good communication skills.
  • A passion for technology and learning.
