Associate - Contract Drafting

Job Description

What is the primary purpose of the role?  How does it contribute to the achievement of overall business objectives?

Associates are lawyers who understand the basic contractual and legal concepts after internal training and guidance, and are able to interpret client instructions and perform first line in the projects they are staffed on. They are expected to have good verbal and written communication skills and communicate with the client on a regular basis. 

Responsibilities:-

  • Perform first line review of contracts and assist senior team members in negotiating contracts for our clients from various sectors, such as Banking, Telecom, Healthcare, Aerospace, Heavy Industries, Manufacturing Companies and IT Services Industry etc. Typically an Associate is staffed on 1 or 2 projects.
  • Contribute towards the creation of project playbooks and other knowledge objects to successfully meet client expectations.
  • Prepare notes after internal and client meetings.
  • Account diligently (under appropriate codes in internal ERP system) for all time spent on project related work and general tasks.
  • Provide professional, and prompt service to the project managers so that they can provide timely support to the client. 
  • Attend and participate actively in mandatory and non- mandatory training and certification courses, including Drafting foundation training, which is typically completed within the first year of joining the department.
  • Manage the workflow and help the project manager with work assignment. Confirm deadlines on client deliverables without delay and negotiate on deadlines (when necessary) promptly. Escalate client issues to delivery managers promptly; .

  • Business impact and geographic scope of role - Critical to delivery of contract drafting services in delivery centres in Mumbai, Bangalore and Noida.
  • People management responsibilities –  Not critical but expected to gradually help project managers with managing work assignment, leaves and meeting client expectations.

Skills:-

What are the critical skills that a successful incumbent would possess, e.g., languages, special writing skills, experience with specific tools, equipment, computer hardware or software, knowledge of special terminology

  • Good analytical & logical skills.
  • Knowledge of English/Grammar enabling efficient comprehension of clients' instructions.

  • Computer and technology savvy and able to learn and adapt to different client processes in order to be able to function smoothly and integrate with the client's system.

  • Long-term career focus – Focus on long term growth in the department, understanding of longer learning curve, and willingness to go the extra mile / stretch, when required.
