Primary Objective(s)

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Managing Editor with experience in energy and/or environmental law to deliver legal news and current awareness information to private practice attorneys and in-house counsel interested in staying up to speed on legal developments. The Managing Editor will research, write, edit and publish timely legal news articles on developments important to energy and environmental law, relying on a variety of legal documents related to litigation, regulation, transactions and legislation. The Managing Editor may be asked to cover additional practice areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify key legal developments in energy & environmental law and other designated practice area(s)
  • Conceptualize, write and edit short news-driven, document-based legal analysis articles under tight daily deadlines
  • Guide writers and analysts in writing short articles for your practice area(s)
  • Curate content derived from sources for delivery to law firms and in-house counsel
  • Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of legal trends and hot topic issues in designated practice areas
  • Perform quality assurance review for print publications
  • Serve as practice area expert internally or externally as needed
  • Work with teams across Thomson Reuters to develop and maintain products targeted at your practice area
  • Develop a deep understanding of customers and markets

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • A JD with 5+ years of legal practice experience in energy/environmental law strongly preferred. Experience researching, writing and publishing energy and/or environmental law topics may be considered in lieu of practice experience.
  • Experience writing for a major legal news publication a plus
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Proven news judgment and analytical ability.
  • Ability to prioritize concurrent projects and adhere to challenging deadlines
  • Ability to adapt and change quickly to meet the needs of both ongoing responsibilities and emerging projects
  • Experience using Westlaw, Practical Law and other online legal research platforms
  • Familiarity with Associated Press style is preferred
