Business Technology Intern - Summer 2018

Job Description

Are you a looking to gain hands-on experience working alongside top technologists who are designing and maintaining global platforms, systems and tools? Are you motivated by learning new technologies and contributing to team success? If so, we want you on our team!

As an intern, you will contribute individually and/or as a team to support a designated functional area, analyze business processes and work toward assigned goals. You will also interact with and support business partners and participate in projects that directly impact business values.

In addition, you will receive on-the-job training and mentoring along with the chance to build professional relationships and enhance your interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

Internships are available in the following technical areas:

  • Product Insight Software Development Internship: support tasks within the backlog for either the server side (docker/lua/aws) or client side (javascript OR iOS/Obj-C or Android/Java) as part of the Product Insight team. Product Insight is Thomson Reuters global usage analytics platform for Thomson Reuters, which consists of an AWS back end and client side SDKs for browser, iOS and Android.
  • CM-Well Community Engagement Internship: join a distributed engineering team spread across Israel, Canada and the UK, and support efforts to increase community engagement by improving tutorials (e.g., recording screen shares for key features), answering questions or enhancing documentation for Thomson Reuters open source RDF data warehousing technology (github.com/thomsonreuters/cm-well).
  • Strategic Novus Ingest (SNI) Java Developer Internship: support the SNI engineering team by working on tasks within the backlog. Strategic Novus Ingest (SNI) is a key component of Thomson Reuters Enterprise Content Platform, responsible for reliably syncing terabytes of legal XML documents between our online search engine and big data environments.
  • Enterprise Content Platform Developer Internship: support the ECP engineering team by developing code to manage tasks within the backlog or assist business stakeholder with content modeling using Java and RDF technologies.  Leverage the power of the Amazon’s AWS offerings and Big Data technology to provide technical solutions.  

Skills & Profile:

  • Proven interest in software engineering skills including software development
  • Strong understanding of object oriented development
  • Ability to write clean code that is easy to understand
  • Understand architectural patterns and design
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of an agile development team
  • Ability to prioritize work and communicate issues in a timely manner
  • Strong problem analysis approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively and professionally communicate to both technical and non-technical users

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline, meeting program academic requirements
  • Coursework in software design, development and data modeling
  • Experience with Java, AWS and Azure, and desire to learn technologies
