Legal Internship (Practical Law) - Summer 2018

Job Description

Are you a current law student looking to leverage your legal know-how as you continue to build and refine your research, writing and analytical skills? Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in a corporate environment while building your professional network? If so, Thomson Reuters has the internship for you.

We are currently seeking motivated law students to support our Practical Law team through a twelve-week, full-time summer internship. Under the supervision of a project leader, you will work on legal research and content projects in our Practical Law team. This includes providing support to teams crafting and maintaining Practical Law content for Westlaw and Practicallaw.com.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research
  • Engage in quality assurance review of new content and linking
  • Analyze and summarize changes to primary law
  • Become acquainted with department business processes and highlight opportunities for automation and process improvement
  • Support the department staff on projects and tasks as needed

Skills & Profile:

  • Westlaw experience
  • Proven strong legal research, writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, organize and express complex legal material quickly and accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively meet deadlines and achieve individual objectives within larger team projects and goals
  • High levels of self-direction, self-motivation and energy
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively relate to and build relationships with all levels of staff

Qualifications:

  • Completion of first or second year of ABA-accredited law school
  • Excellent undergraduate and law school academic credentials
  • Strong computer abilities, including use of Microsoft Office products; Word, Outlook and Excel highly preferred

++ This summer internship requires a full-time commitment from late May/early June through mid- to late August, with a potential opportunity to extend into the fall and spring at 10-20 hours per week.
