Software Engineer Internship (Risk Technology) - Summer 2018

Job Description

As a Software Engineer Intern, you will join our Risk Intelligence (RIAT) team and contribute to the software design, development, test automation and support of production systems. You will deliver high-quality work in a high-energy environment while collaborating and brainstorming with other developers in a dynamic team.

This challenging position requires individuals who can work independently while collaborating with a larger team.   • Development of Web-based data access and UI
  • Design and development of Web-based systems for use by national and international customers
  • Software testing in multiple phases of the development cycle for initiatives across multiple organizations
  • Collaborate with a number of teams to ensure technology solutions meet business needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents within a defined Incident Management process

Skills & Profile:

  • Passionate about leveraging and growing software engineering skills including software development and test automation
  • Ability to flex into software development and QA automation work as needed
  • Strong understanding of object oriented development
  • Ability to write clean code that is easy to understand
  • Understand architectural patterns and design
  • Ability to work independently or as part of an agile development team
  • Ability to prioritize work and communicate issues in a timely manner
  • Strong problem analysis approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively and professionally communicate to both technical and non-technical users


  • Currently a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline, meeting program academic requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Java and/or Selenium, and desire to learn technologies
  • Experience in Web technologies a plus, including JavaScript, CSS, XML
  • Other technical experience preferred including Tomcat, Hibernate/JPA, UML, React
  • Coursework in software design, development and testing expertise
