Lead Systems and Storage Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a highly technical senior engineer who will report to the Global Head of EMS Infrastructure Engineering and Operations and manage a team of Linux and windows engineers and consultant responsible for both on-prem and cloud applications.  The systems team is tasked to build and operate modern, scalable, resilient and flexible IT infrastructure. Their goal is to eliminate inefficient manual operations by leveraging existing configuration management tools and implementing in-house automation.  The ideal candidate for the Lead Systems and Storage Engineer position will foresee problems and prioritize productized solutions.  

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Technical Delivery teams to deliver cloud architectures and procedures including, Cloud, Docker and kubernetes, Infrastructure as code, and Storage and virtualization best practices
  • Translate requirements and provide guidance to the engineering team
  • Manage team’s on-call schedule
  • Encourage automation opportunities that will simplify the configuration management of the infrastructure
  • Interface daily with members of the Technology Infrastructure team
  • Proactive management and monitoring of our environment, together with extensive problem identification, ownership, resolution or escalation
  • Owning resolution of significant system outages, acting as point of escalation with internal users and external vendors when needed
  • Identify improvements that will contribute to increased availability, stability, and performance in our environment
  • Work closely with development, QA and Application Support Teams
  • Work with developers on establishing requirements for new components in our Linux and network infrastructure
  • Identify and develop tools to facilitate the continuous monitoring of our production environment
  • Work with development teams to build a scalable, reliable, and robust environment

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience managing teams who build and support mission-critical enterprise trading environments
  • Ability to assess systems and storage needs, generate development plan, and recommend selection of appropriate hardware and/or software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and provide emergency support
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows Systems (recent versions of RHEL, CentOS, Windows)
  • Good understanding of configuration management concepts – experience with Chef would be ideal
  • Good understanding of public and private cloud technologies and services such as Openstack, VMWare, AWS, Azure, etc.
  • Familiar with virtualization concepts – knowledge of KVM and/or VMWare
  • Familiar with networking concepts such as IP addressing, routing, firewalling and basic network troubleshooting tools
  • Familiar with basic security concepts and best practices related to authentication, auditing and access monitoring
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Terraform and/or AWS Cloudformation
  • Desire to be exposed to new tools and programming languages
  • Desire to be exposed to concepts relevant to the financial industry
  • Ability to get involved in the technical investigation of issues and proactively assume leadership
  • Troubleshooting knowledge of network routing and protocols is beneficial, exposure to packet tracing tools is ideal
