The Indirect Tax team is responsible for helping the business manage and mitigate Indirect Tax risks. Indirect Tax supports all businesses within Thomson Reuters globally

Position Title: Indirect Tax Assistant Consultant

Location: London – South Colonnade

Role Summary:

The Indirect Tax team at Thomson Reuters supports TR businesses in ensuring compliance with Indirect Tax reporting obligations in all jurisdictions in which we have obligations

As the “Indirect Tax Assistant Consultant” you will support the Indirect Tax Senior Consultant (Systems) in ensuring that all of TR’s platforms are configured correctly from an Indirect Tax perspective (the scope of the role is global, excluding the US and Latam) – this includes simple rate changes, as well as more fundamental changes such as new VAT regimes 

You will work closely with colleagues in the Indirect Tax team, as well as external advisers, to receive tax requirements and will be responsible for analysing/interpreting these in order to articulate the system requirements to the internal Systems team

There is a significant time pressure on the changes made, as any delay may result in bill block and potential penalties

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring the correct Indirect Tax configuration across all TR billing platforms
  • Drafting change request/business specification requirements documentation for all Indirect Tax driven changes to TR systems
  • Liaising with internal systems team to scope, spec, complete, test and implement changes – this is crucial as the majority of the actual systems work is outsourced and requires extensive communication with the outsourced provider
  • Liaising with Billing and Customer Admin teams to test changes and ensure that they are implemented with minimal disruption to the business
  • Assist with the transition to new ERP systems from legacy billing arrangements
  • Assist with the drafting and maintenance of process documents around the Indirect Tax impacts on Billing, Accounts Payable etc
  • Working with business contacts to improve order to cash processes where Indirect Tax impacted
  • Working with Compliance team to improve quality of Indirect Tax reporting
  • Reviewing Customer and Material Master Data to ensure correct Tax classifications assigned

Upcoming projects which have a substantial Indirect Tax impact – these are those that are known at this time but similar projects will arise on a frequent basis

  • Moving the China business activity to an onshore entity
  • Implementing Tax configuration for TR entities in the GCC region
  • Impact of Brexit on UK entities, as well as any new entities created to accommodate this
  • Moving business activity from local branches of an offshore entity to a local entity in both Poland and Portugal
  • Moving activity to a new onshore entity in Thailand
  • Moving activity to a new onshore entity in Singapore
  • Moving activity to a new onshore entity in India
  • Migration of acquired regulated business entity

Reporting into the Indirect Tax Senior Consultant

Working closely with the Indirect Tax team, EBS, TCS, Customer Admin, Finance, Billing

Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Highly motivated and proactive self starter
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Education/ Certifications:

  • Degree qualified or similar competency gained by experience
