Primary Objective(s)

Lead QA Software Engineer will provide technical supervision, guidance, instruction, direction and technical leadership to a group of highly skilled engineers to develop applications and construct automated test suite to ensure the quality of our systems. 

Division/Group/Role

The Enterprise Content Platform (ECP) is an innovative technology and a business direction for Thomson Reuters.  ECP puts content from all Thomson Reuters’ businesses in a single place, fueling our growth as we acquire, store and use content as an enterprise. A single content location coupled with the ability to share found relationships across this enterprise content will enable new business models, services and products.  Imagine a product that allows an attorney to access company financial information that enables decision making on potential clients.   Consider the possibilities of a data feed that co-mingles our financial content with a third party that provides customers with further insights into their product sector.

The ECP technology stack starts with big data technologies and extends those capabilities into the Cloud.  ECP is a unique industry and leading implementation of these technologies in their use as a multi-tenant and secured clusters, shared content and functionality, enterprise content and application management platform including replication and resiliency.

We are currently seeking a team-oriented, self-motivated professional to fill the role of Team Lead.  A Team Lead will provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to a group of highly skilled engineers to deliver our software components in the Big Data Space.

Primary responsibilities

                Leadership

  • Team leadership for QA engineers across sites.
  • Participate in Agile team to understand requirements, acceptance criteria and show test results that meet acceptance criteria. 
  • Provide Technical Leadership of engineers involved in building automated testing and development
  • Create and execute end to end tests to ensure code meets requirements.
  • Create and execute system tests to ensure code meets SLA.
  • Participate in project planning sessions to understand development requirements, and provide work breakdown and estimates for testing tasks
  • Develop tests using industry and company best practices.
  • Collaborate with developers on a day-to-day basis
  • Improve code quality and performance by creating innovative testing solutions
  • Account for the quality and timeliness of own work.
  • Maintain and grow applications according to business and technology priorities.

Technical

  • Hands on use of Linked Data technologies to ensure full understanding of system and to aid validation of implementation decisions
  • Hands on use of automation tools for data processing and UI.
  • Understanding of ETL processes and testing techniques.
  • Continuous learning and input into the build out of the Linked Data knowledge graph
  • Ownership of some development tasks

Communication

  • Work across a broader program to ensure dependencies and decision making across teams is effective
  • Ensure effort and decisions are tracked and reportable to group
  • Ability to collaborate with development team and articulate testing procedures and test case failures.
  • Support project management group in overall management of program deliverables

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or a related field
  • 5 years experience as a Senior /Lead QA Software Engineer
  • Experience with Agile software development methods
  • Solid experience programming with Java / Scala or equivalent programming language
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation & influencing skills
  • Desire and drive to make decisions stick, rapidly building consensus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with Executive audiences
  • Ability to work across geographic boundaries with some flexibility in call hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies and techniques
  • Experience in utilizing big data technologies to achieve scale
  • Experience in data transformation and manipulation (ETL)
  • Experience with data formats in XML, Json, CSV, RDF
