Position Title: Senior Software Development Engineer in Test/Lead Automation Engineer

Location: 5 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London UK

Role Summary:


We are looking for a Lead Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the Thomson Reuters Elite – MatterSphere legal case management technology team focused on all aspects of the application. The ideal candidate will have broad experience with Microsoft Technologies including Visual Studio and Microsoft Testing Technologies and a strong understanding of the .Net framework. Microsoft Office Testing is an advantage. The individual should have strong understanding of web technology and have extensive experience in web application testing through automation. The individual should have strong programming skills with .Net and C#, and working knowledge of SQL as the duties will include framework development, test module library development, automation utility development, test plan, test strategy, test script development, test status reporting as well as knowledge with Microsoft’s test management systems and TFS as the source code and project management tool. You will be working closely with a US team and an offshore team.

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Lead the agile team on QA/automation initiatives
  • Mentor and manage junior QA/SDET members and advice business technically
  • Work with management to prioritize QA/automation initiatives for the team

Key Relationships:

  • Reporting to SDET Manager
  • Work with development and test (both manual and SDETs) onshore and off.
  • Work with product owners

Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in apply technical expertise to build, maintain, and expand test automation frameworks and coverage
  • Solid experience in organizing the development and maintenance of test strategies, test plan, test cases, and reports
  • Experience testing applications developed in C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript, Jquery, Linq, QCF, XML preferred
  • Experience in reviews test scripts and provide guidance and best practices
  • Experience in managing large scale test cases and test scripts using test management tools
  • Experience in working on non-UI testing frameworks: API, web services, REST and SOAP, back-end testing, test data management, mocking, etc
  • Experience filing bugs and tracking/driving issues to closure. Ability to write effective reproducible test scenarios.
  • Experience in executing performance and load tests, analyzing results and identifying bottlenecks preferred.
  • Experience testing applications implemented with Silverlight and WPF preferred.
  • Experience writing SQL queries preferred
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with tools: Visual Studio, MSTest, SQL Server, Microsoft Test Manager or Test Hub preferred.
  • Experience with testing financial applications, particularly accounting applications a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Good debugging skills. 
  • Experience with VCS, Issue tracking and Continuous Integration Systems. We currently use TFS for all of these.
  • Demonstrates an eagerness to obtain domain knowledge in order to effectively leverage technical qualifications.
  • Understanding of organization’s development platform and languages.
  • Ability to understand technical issues.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks as delegated.
  • Team-player with the ability to work within a collaborative environment.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting onshore teams in another office

Desired Skills:

  • QA Experience (in organizing the development and maintenance of test strategies, test plan, test cases, reports, and metrics)
  • Automation Experience (expand test automation frameworks and coverage).  Candidate must have programming experience
  • Experience with the Microsoft stack (C#, Visual Studio, MSTest, SQL Server, Microsoft Test Manager or Test Hub preferred.)

Education/ Certifications:

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in information technology, computer science, or similar, and/or equivalent work experience.
