We provide critical online and print information, decision support tools, software and services to lawyers who practice in law firms, in corporate legal departments and in the public sector. Position Title: Senior Project Manager

Position Type: Permanent

Role Purpose

The  Senior Project Manager is responsible for, and drives, all aspects of managing the delivery of the project. This includes managing the detailed planning of the delivery of the products, scope, budget, risk, issue and change management. It also includes effective management of the project team and engagement with key stakeholders within Thomson Reuters external customers and from across the business. The Project Manager takes responsibility throughout the duration of the project, including both the business and technical aspects of the project, from establishing the project through to Deployment and handover of the solution. Depending on the nature of the project, this can involve managing the detailed delivery of the Solution Development teams. Projects are typically managed via cross-functional, collaborative, agile project teams.

 The Senior Project Manager will typically manage high risk, complex, business critical Projectsinvolving large/multiple teams in multiple locations. The Senior Project Manager may also manage staff.

Project and/or Programs areas may include:

Court Solutions customer implementations or enhancement projects/programs

Infrastructure implementations, working closely with technical teams
Internal business proposals and responding to requests for proposals from Thomson Reuters customers


  • Defines, documents and executes projects of extreme high risk, complexity and visibility, actively participating in all phases of the project.
  • Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project.
  • Identifies, assess and manages issues that may impact the success of the project
  • Drafts feasibility studies, risk assessments and statements of work.
  • May develop or assist in developing business cases for large projects with significant impact to company goals.
  • Responsible for producing all typical project documentation - detailed project plans, work plans, schedules, project estimates, conversion schedules, resource plans and status reports.
  • Determines project methodology.
  • Defines project scope and objectives.
  • Agrees scope and constraints to enable costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful completion of each project to be estimated.
  • Has responsibility to ensure project deliverables are demonstrably fit for purpose.
  • Gains commitments to ensure corrective actions are taken if costs, timescales or resources deviate from agreed tolerances.
  • Manages the change control procedure gaining agreement for revisions to the project from project stakeholders and ensure full impact of significant changes are understood by project stakeholders.
  • Ensures all parties are aware of project scope and milestones. Highlights divergence from that scope, and adjusts it where necessary to reflect changing circumstances, acts a communication liaison.
  • Gives advice to team on functional matters, or on the interpretation of policies and practices.

  • Ensures effective communication both across the project team, and with key stakeholders via effective meetings, reporting, documentation and other methods as appropriate

Requirements and Experience


  • Proven track-record of successful delivery of large, high risk, complex, high profile, professional service projects and/or programs within complex Business environment.
  • Experience in delivering Agile projects and being well versed in agile tools and techniques
  • Adept at identifying project risks and blockers and driving resolutions, identifying themes to help the team learn from the experience
  • Sound financial acumen and effective project resource management    
  • Experience of transitioning resulting large scale changes into BAU


  • Able to manage difficult relationships and help teams overcome conflicts
  • Experience of working in non-co-located teams
  • Experience of managing multi-party developments (including 3rd parties), preferably with international scope.


  • Effective communicator both within the Project team, with key stakeholders in both external customers and internal within the wider Thomson Reuters business
  • Strong customer-facing and presentational skills - credible with senior stakeholders
