Job Title: International Segment Manager

Reports To: Senior Director, Commercial

Position Type: Permanent

Role Purpose

This person will develop and drive the segment strategy to achieve sustainable growth and profitability in line with overall business goals for the International segment – leveraging profound customer insight and deep understanding of Thomson Reuters’ capabilities, assets and differentiators.

This person will also lead and enhance the internal collaboration mechanisms and organizational interlocks across TR global businesses to ensure UKI Legal’s products are taken to market effectively within the International domain.


Major Responsibilities

  • Understand the distinct needs of segment and synthesize critical trends in the segment that will impact our business. Identify and interpret unmet needs.
  • Understand the key capabilities, assets and differentiators of UK & Ireland Legal Solutions in the context of industry trends and the competitive landscape to inform growth acceleration priorities for the segment.
  • Own and develop long-term vision around the likely evolution of the market and competitive landscape in the segment
  • Prepare and present communications about customer trends, strategies, initiatives, partnerships/ acquisitions and other projects to various levels of the organisation, including the Executive Leadership Team
  • With other members of the Customer Segments and Strategy function, prioritise opportunities and sponsor implementation of growth strategies to maximise the opportunities identified.
  • Articulate regularly to internal and external stakeholders segment strategy and roadmap to support delivery ,regularly reviewing and acting on relevant market information to identify gaps and new opportunities
  • Provide proactive commercial leadership and full participation on behalf of UKI Legal in collaboration with other Thomson Reuters businesses and internal cross-border working mechanisms.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Strong academic or equivalent experience
  • Excellent understanding of the legal services market and lawyer workflows
  • A track record of defining successful propositions which meet or anticipate customer expectations
  • Experience of working in a global organisation at a senior level
  • Proven creativity in a commercial context
  • Proven leadership ability in setting, driving and executing a strategy across a business
  • Proven ability in strategically using domain expertise to drive activities which increase market share and customer acquisition, and improves retention through Customer satisfaction.

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen
  • Ability to collaborate and work across a large, diverse, and matrixed organization
  • The confidence, gravitas and credibility to build relationships with important figures and customers in the legal world.
  • Understanding and experience with cultural differences and their impact on how business is conducted
  • Effective oral and written communication skills when dealing with  management and employees at various organization levels, including senior management
  • Exceptional influencing, negotiating and partnering skills
  • Ability to provide leadership in ambiguous and fluid situations
  • Tact and persuasiveness when collaborating with stakeholders and senior management in order to resolve common issues
