Associate Editor – Public Sector Service

Responsibilities

Practical Law is looking for an associate editor to conduct research, draft, edit, and publish a variety of content for its Public Sector Service.  The associate editor will: 

  • Working with senior legal editors, research and draft Practical Law resources on a variety of topics of interest to government lawyers.
  • Assist with product development efforts and other special projects.
  • Perform annual and interim maintenance on Practical Law resources to reflect recent legal developments.
  • Write, edit, and publish updates on recent legal developments, highlighting the practical implications of recent legal developments.
  • Generate weekly e-mails on current legal developments for our database of subscribers and trial subscribers.
  • Research primary and secondary sources for current developments and other potential topics for the web service.
  • Liaise with external authors regarding original contributions and updates of Practical Law resources.
  • Maintain and manage internal progress charts, databases, and folders.
  • Provide additional editorial support for the Public Sector service as required.

Qualifications

Candidates must have at least the following skills and experience:

  • J.D. plus one year of legal experience, or related experience in an online legal or financial publishing company. Experience or interest in legal issues involving state and local governments and/or the federal government is strongly preferred.
  • A keen interest in writing and excellent drafting skills including:
    • very close attention to detail;
    • good command of grammar, punctuation and plain English; and
    • the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly, simply, and succinctly.
  • Analytical and research skills and ability to identify key relevant information from sources.
  • Ability to work efficiently and within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent IT, administrative, and organization skills.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • Enthusiasm to work at a fast-growing company.
