Job Description

The Project Manager will define, scope, initiate and manage large departmental projects with moderate to high risk. Typical scope of the projects will be between 2-3 and 12 months, involve between 2 and 20 FTEs which are cross functional / across multiple geographic locations and be a project that is critical to the company meeting its objectives.

Team members in a Project Manager role are expected to display core competencies such as Project Delivery, Financial Management, Risk Management, Executive Level Reporting, Estimating and Planning. Expected expertise in each of these areas will vary based on job level. This role will also advise and coach more junior members of the project team to ensure superior execution or work across the full portfolio.

Ideally the candidate will have a software development background having moved into project management but now an experienced PM who has recently worked on building complex applications. This is a hands-on role and the candidate must thrive in delivering high quality product under pressure.

It will be a requirement to manage multiple projects simulateously and be responsive to any priority change with a restricted resource pool.

Skills and Experience

  • Crystal clear communication and a determined driven personality
  • Flexibility to work out of normal hours with overseas teams
  • Experienced with Agile/Scrum techniques to the extent of being able to build processes from scratch and not just follow an existing methodology
  • Demonstrable experience having run at least 3 application development design and construction projects and not just web sites
  • Ability to critically assess the quality of deliverables (both technical and non-technical) and to redirect where necessary to guarantee that the business needs are fully addressed
  • Essential is understanding Content Management Systems, XML, web applications and flows of data to be made available to the application layer
  • Willingness to hold teleconferences with overseas teams outside normal business hours

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • At least 5 years experience leading development of complex software products
  • Well experienced in dealing with a complex environment
  • Experienced in QA principles, Use Cases and Test Case traceability back to Requirements
  • Experience reporting at a project control board level
  • Experience of working in a publishing environment preferred
  • Familiarity with multiple variations of Project lifecycles
  • Knowledge  of CMS and web development technologies
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Outstanding verbal/listening and written communication skills
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
