Job Description

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: (approximate percentage of time spent in each area)

80% - Production/Editorial/Support: 
Analyzes large amounts of information from multiple sources and determines whether the case can be written (vetting process). After mastering vetting, may learn to write coherent, accurate, brief summaries. Has a general understanding of legal system and some knowledge of an efficient production/support workflow process. Supports team publishing goals by meeting deadlines. 

 

10% - Product/Process Knowledge:
Works regularly on various systems, software, databases and applications to deliver quality products. Responsible for accuracy and completeness of work product, including competence in scheduling and administrative systems as well as computer file management. All work will be checked until competent process knowledge is developed


10% - Interpersonal/Team Skills:
Works successfully in a team environment and understands various roles of team members. Attends and participates in team meetings.

Education:
University/College degree required. Journalism or Legal degree preferred, with some law school experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal English and communication skills, including composition/grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Journalism and/or writing experience preferred.
  • U.S. legal system familiarity (cases and statutes) preferred. Familiarity with legal terminology and ability to read and understand legal documents from various U.S. courts.
  • Technical aptitude for computer applications and systems such as word processing and file management applications.
