Associate Editor - Canadian Lawyer

(14-month contract)

Purpose:

To conduct and report on the results of Canadian Lawyer's surveys and create/edit content for the publications and digital products in the Canadian Lawyer media group.

Your duties will include:

  • researching, analyzing and writing the feature for a series of Canadian Lawyer editorial surveys;
  • writing articles and blog posts;
  • creating online multimedia content;
  • shooting and editing videos;
  • compiling a weekly e-newsletter;
  • editing, scheduling and coordinating online opinion columns;
  • posting news and stories on social media, monitoring engagement;
  • keeping up with the daily legal and business news and offering up ideas for stories;
  • attending conferences and events as a representative of the magazine; and
  • other duties as assigned.

You will be a strong team player and will possess:

  • a University or College Degree in journalism or related discipline or a law degree;
  • 3 years editorial experience at daily/weekly newspaper, magazine, media website;
  • experience working with Excel and Survey Monkey or similar applications;
  • excellent command of the English language in both written and oral forms;
  • knowledge of CP style;
  • the ability to work independently with minimal direction;
  • great attention to detail, ability to analyze survey results and working knowledge of research/survey best practices;
  • the ability to work well with time restraints and prioritizing;
  • the ability to work under pressure;
  • excellent interpersonal and people skills; and
  • the ability to produce accurate, interesting copy on a variety of deadlines as well as be able to generate story ideas and understand complex legal issues.

Experience in producing online and digital content will be considered an asset.
