Content Strategist

Purpose:

The role of Content Strategist is to create marketing materials on digital media for law firms across Canada. The position involves acting in a combination of capacities, including copywriter, online content writer, social media writer and copy editor. You will primarily write website copy, legal blog posts, social media ads and online marketing materials to help our clients develop their online presence. But the role goes beyond simply writing. A key facet of the role involves online content strategy.

As a strategist, you will be responsible for analyzing clients’ marketing goals, content needs and performance data and then using these to develop customized recommendations and content plans. You will also conduct professional client interviews and online research to gather material that supports your written deliverables. The role is heavily team-based and you will work on projects alongside project managers, digital marketers and web designers. To learn more about our business line, see our websites: LawyerMarketing.Findlaw.ca and Findlaw.ca.

You are an experienced writer who can think very quickly on your feet. You know how to write marketing copy as well as informational/journalistic content. You have the creative flexibility to shape a single subject in a number of different ways. In the face of complex legal information, you know how to understand and boil a subject down to its basics so that readers can grasp it quickly and easily. You have a knack for writing at a high, university-level quality to pass inspection by the most finicky of lawyers, but also to scale your writing down so that it’s completely accessible to the average consumer. You write super clean copy with minimal need for editing or rewriting. You have a rock-solid grasp on the written language. You can balance priorities, manage tight deadlines and work with concentration and focus on multiple projects in a high-pressure environment. You are not intimidated by the prospect of having lawyers as your clients. You are not thin-skinned, but can handle feedback and criticism from demanding customers. If you have knowledge about Canadian law, that would be a definite asset. Please provide us with 3 relevant writing samples to be considered for this position.

This position is responsible for:

  • conducting content audits and using these to generate site maps and content plans for individual clients’ online marketing needs;
  • conducting client interviews and conducting research to gather information on clients’ business goals, brand differentiators and target audiences;
  • writing and/or rewriting materials in a way that reflects online usability, online writing, SEO and marketing best practices and that matches clients’ preferred tone and voice;
  • collaborating as part of a team and completing varied work assignments; and
  • meeting established deliverables and quality expectations.

You will be a strong team player and will possess:

  • a University degree (a degree in English, communications, journalism or law would be considered and asset);
  • 2 - 5 years of professional writing experience, in marketing and online content;
  • internet/online writing, digital marketing, online usability and search engine optimization;
  • general marketing and social media strategies;
  • copy editing skills;
  • some knowledge of or a strong interest in learning about various areas of legal practice;
  • excellent English writing skills while applying the standard rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling;
  • the ability to successfully write for the desired media (online content, marketing copy, informational/journalistic content, blog posts, social media, etc.)
  • the ability to conduct online and legal research;
  • the ability to learn and function in a heavily technological, systems-based and process-heavy environment;
  • strong oral communication skills in a client-facing environment;
  • the ability to interact with demanding clients who work in professional services;
  • the ability to handle challenging client issues while maintaining a solutions focus in escalated situations;
  • strong relationship building and collaboration skills;
  • the ability to work independently with attention to detail;
  • the ability to adapt to change and handle multiple and/or conflicting projects and priorities;
  • the ability to work in a deadline-driven environment to achieve output and metric goals; and
  • the ability to accurately forecast workload and meet delivery expectations for all projects.
