Technical Operations Deployment Engineer

Job Description

The Technical Operations Deployment Engineer will provide technical expertise within a team focused on the implementation of ongoing Elektron projects with agreed timescales, which are fully operable and can be maintained to agreed service levels, whilst ensuring global consistency in the application of process and technical standards.  Providing professional implementation services which are predictable and aligned to business requirements, via an organisation that is globally consistent and completely service and customer focused.  It includes all Elektron systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform server and chassis builds and configuration, and switch configuration per projects required.
  • Analyze build and OAT documents and provide feedback in order to increase efficiency and reduce build errors.
  • Flexibility to shift working hours to accommodate the project needs / Implementation work.
  • Provide Configuration and Change Management support as per the company Process, meeting day-1, capacity, and projects required dates:
    • Confirm that changes are “fit for purpose” to be installed in the Elektron and IDN and TDN environment and will not disrupt service. 
    • Install and/or work with Development and QA and Support teams in the installation of changes and take corrective actions.
    • To ensure that all aspects of operability are delivered while ensuring that existing service levels are maintained or improved.
    • To ensure Global and Standard Process is followed.
  • Perform analysis, planning, Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT) as required for project related work.
  • Complete Operations Acceptance Checklist (OAC) as required for project related work, including but not limited to analyzing Quiet Running Report (QRR), raising Operations DML items, hosting OAC signoff meeting, and meet SOU handoff criteria.
  • Create and maintain documentation required for Implementation and Support teams, e.g. OAT Templates.
  • Perform misc. tasks per manager's direction.
  • Comply with ISO audit requirements.
  • Comply with ITIL process.
  • Adopt Agile Methodologies and innovative ways to automate manual tasks using technology.

Required Skills and Experience (must have):

  • BS / BA or equivalent experience in Computer related field
  • Enthusiasm and ability to learn quickly.
  • A team player and ability to collaborate well with other teams.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills (including operating system, hardware, network connectivity).
  • Strong oral and written communications skills with the ability to liaise with people from a variety of internal and external groups/companies, including globally diverse teams.
  • Ability to rapidly switch tasks to cater for changing priorities and objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Linux, Solaris, or Windows server builds experience.
  • Shell scripting, Unix and/or Power Shell experience.
  • Working Knowledge of networks, TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast.
  • MS Visio, Word, and Excel use for documentation.

Desired Skills and Experience (nice to have):

• Automated Server builds.

• Automated deployment such as Puppet, Ansible, or Rundeck.

• Service monitoring (including SNMP and supporting agents as appropriate).

• Node.js, JavaScript, MongoDB, PHP, PERL, VB, GOLang, Python, SQL, or C/C++ experience a plus.

• ITIL Foundation Certificate.

• Knowledge of the financial markets is a plus.

• Performance tuning of Operating System, Networking interfaces and network tunable parameters.

• Knowledge and experience with DevOps environment.

• Knowledge and experience with the Elektron infrastructure (CPoP, MTC, DPoP) deployments.
