Role : Correspondent, Money, Politics and General News, India
Location : New Delhi
We are seeking an experienced journalist to join our Money, Politics and General News team in India. The job will be based in New Delhi, India’s vibrant capital.
India is going through a fundamental change under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationalist administration. The government has taken up economic reforms, like a unified goods and services tax, and is trying to attract foreign investment, as it hopes to create jobs in a country with 1.3 billion people. But it is also drawing criticism from the opposition for pushing a Hindu-first agenda and worrying the country’s sizeable minority population.
All this is ample grist for insightful stories that can cut through the chaos and help global readers and investors better understand Asia’s third-largest economy and where it is headed.
In this role, the focus will be more on the Money piece of the equation. The successful candidate will be expected to cover policy developments, macro-economic stories and the interaction of major international companies with the government as they look to invest and lobby to influence policy outcomes.
The successful candidate will have a track record of developing sources and conceiving smart story ideas. As a member of the MPG team in a relatively small bureau, they will also be expected to help cover big breaking news, do pieces to camera and sometimes shoot pictures and video on their phones. They should be comfortable working across a spectrum of stories in a fast-paced environment, from sending out snaps and breaking news to working on deeply reported enterprising stories.
