Asia Markets Correspondent
Reuters News Operations
We are looking for an experienced reporter who can write authoritatively about stock and bond markets across Asia. With a mix of developed and developing economies across Asia and no single main financial centre, the job would suit an enthusiastic reporter keen to engage with investors and readers. Foreign investors play an important role in many Asian markets, and their decisions on allocations can lead to big shifts in asset prices. The easy money of the post-GFC period has supported liquidity in many Asian markets as investors chased returns, but that could change as momentum in Western economies picks up, central banks adopt a tightening bias and China looks to further open up its markets.
The successful candidate will be able to identify and quickly explain market trends for our specialist clients, and also be able to write market stories for a broad audience. The reporter will be part of the regional team that produces the Global Markets report, and will link with other specialist reporters throughout Asia to ensure we cover the links between markets, economies, companies and consumers. They will lead Asia’s STOCKS BUZZ coverage, ensuring we apply best practice in our coverage across the region. The reporter will become an authority on the new GRAPHIC format, which is an asset for market stories, and be able to use that expertise and knowledge of Eikon and Datastream to generate graphic-driven stories and assist reporters through the region. And they will also help identify and implement opportunities where we can use computer-assisted reporting tools to create more time for initiative and exploratory reporting.
Required Skills and Experience
- Understanding of debt and stocks markets, and how they interact
- Able to quickly distill market developments into clear, concise copy
- Demonstrable experience of producing multimedia content
- Proven ability to build a broad range of sources
- Able to work as part of a virtual team, including with inexperienced reporters
