Responsibilities:

Practical Law US is looking for a Senior Legal Editor to work on Illinois resources for our Real Estate Service.  

The Editor will: 

  • Research, develop, draft, and publish real estate content with a focus on Illinois state practice for the Real Estate Service.
  • Write, edit, and update real estate resources, including standard form documents, practice notes, checklists, and standard clauses, in accordance with Practical Law writing style.
  • Stay informed of current developments and issues in Illinois state practice to ensure timely updates of existing content and development of new content.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors providing real estate resources.
  • Organize and conduct webinars on topics of interest to attorneys and assist with marketing initiatives and sales demonstrations.
  • Peer review content of other editors.
  • Collaborate with other Practical Law editors on content planning and marketing initiatives.
  • Write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law - The Journal: Real Estate.
  • Develop relationships with lawyers in private practice and in-house counsel to ensure that the real estate content is topical and meets their needs.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have at least the following skills and experience: 

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience working as an Illinois real estate attorney in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
  • J.D. required.
  • Actively licensed to practice in Illinois.
  • Significant and broad experience in a variety of  real estate matters for Illinois based commercial and residential transactions, including:
    • complex commercial transactions;
    • purchasing and selling of commercial and residential real estate;
    • commercial leasing, including office, retail, and residential leasing;
    • real estate finance, including permanent, construction, and revolving credit  loans;
    • real estate joint venture transactions; and
    • construction and real estate development.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.
  • A passion for writing and good editing skills, including:
    • very close attention to detail;
    • impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and
    • the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Self-motivated with excellent management and organizational skills to effectively track productivity and ensure product development milestones are met.
  • Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members.

Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.
