Job Description

Poland Political & General News Correspondent

Reuters is looking for an experienced journalist to lead general news coverage in Poland. We want an effective writer and a versatile reporter who is comfortable covering breaking news as well as developing insightful and original analysis.

The job comes at an extraordinary time in Poland’s post-communist history. Once a model of democratic reforms, Poland is leading a regional push towards “illiberal democracy”, distancing itself from the European mainstream and attracting international condemnation over what critics say is its attack on the rule of law. The successful candidate will have an eye for the sort of telling detail that can bring to life the complexities of the Polish government’s wide-ranging push to redefine the country in line with its conservative values.

Beyond a strong journalism background and excellent English-language writing ability, the job requires good organizational skills and the ability to multitask. The reporter will work closely with a team of six Polish- and English-language correspondents, participate in slot duties, and occasionally cover macroeconomic and corporate news. At least five years in journalism is required. Fluent Polish is essential.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent news judgement
  • Strong news writing ability
  • Proven ability to generate original story ideas & insightful analyses
  • Track record of working with speed and accuracy and to the highest ethical standards
  • Fluent Polish

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of the Polish political landscape an asset
  • Experience working in a real-time news environment helpful
  • Knowledge of macroeconomics useful
