Position Title: Specialist Sub Editor, Top News (JREQ100542)

Role Summary:

Reuters is looking for an exceptional editor for its Top News Team in EMEA to help drive ambitious coverage of a wide range of topics. The successful candidate will work closely with bureau chiefs and editors to help shape stories as they are reported and written, elevating copy to the highest standard that will earn a place on the front page of our financial desktop, Thomson Reuters Eikon, and on other Reuters platforms.

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will be involved not only in editing stories as they come in, but also hosting pitch discussions and helping to develop themes that will produce series of stories throughout the year and beyond. That will require close cooperation with our global sector editors, bureau chiefs and reporters.

Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies:

Essential Skills & Experience Required:

  • The ability to bullet-proof copy, spot gaps in stories, strive for balance and elevate incoming copy to the highest possible standard.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with others to create a pipeline of Front Page stories, help provide a streamlined but rigorous editing process and ensure that reporters get the feedback they need to deliver.
  • Ability to coordinate appropriate multi-media elements to enhance stories, from graphics to pictures and video.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in different story-telling techniques is helpful.
  • Extensive experience reporting or editing at a major news organization.
  • A track record of working with reporters from an early stage in the editing process, including commissioning stories.
  • Language skills, including Arabic, are helpful.
